THE MAGIC YAM OF ODOMOKE
In the village of Odomoke, there lived a kind and hardworking farmer named Mr. Nwangbo Okite. He was known for his generosity, always sharing his crops with his neighbors. Because of this, everyone in the village loved him.
One day, while working in his field, Mr. Nwangbo found a yam unlike any he had ever seen. It was huge and glowing with a soft, magical light. Curious, he dug it up and took it home.
That night, Mr. Nwangbo had a strange dream. A spirit appeared and said, "Nwangbo, you have found the Magic Yam. It will bring great wealth and happiness to you and your village, but you must share it. If you keep it for yourself, bad things will happen."
The next morning, Mr. Nwangbo gathered all the villagers and told them about the Magic Yam. They decided to plant pieces of it in everyone's fields so that everyone could benefit from its magic.
Soon, the village was thriving. Crops grew faster and bigger than ever before, and no one went hungry. But one man, named Nwifuru, became jealous. He thought if he could steal the whole Magic Yam, he would be the richest man in the land.
One night, Nwifuru sneaked into Mr. Nwangbo's house and stole the last piece of the Magic Yam. He planted it in his field, hoping to get all the magic for himself. But instead of growing, his crops withered and died. A terrible drought struck the village.
The villagers were scared and confused. They asked Mr. Nwangbo for help. Heartbroken, Mr. Nwangbo asked the spirit in his dreams for guidance.
The spirit appeared again and said, "The Magic Yam was meant to be shared. Nwifuru's greed has brought this curse. Only by confessing his actions and seeking forgiveness can the village be saved."
Mr. Nwangbo called a meeting and confronted Nwifuru. Feeling guilty, Nwifuru admitted to his crime and begged for forgiveness. Though the villagers were angry, they decided to give him a chance to make things right.
Together, they replanted the remaining piece of the Magic Yam, this time making sure everyone helped take care of it. Slowly, the land began to heal. The rains returned, the crops grew lush and green again, and the village prospered.
Nwifuru learned an important lesson about the dangers of jealousy and greed. From then on, he worked side by side with Mr. Nwangbo, sharing both the work and the harvest. The village thrived, united by generosity and teamwork.
And so, the tale of Mr. Nwangbo and the Magic Yam became a beloved story in Odomoke, teaching everyone that true happiness comes from sharing with others.
